Diary of Events

October:

Planting of bulbs and spring bedding by school students, committee members and volunteers in several locations throughout the town:

High Street; Church Grounds; Knockomie Roundabout; Grant Park; Forres Academy; Wee FlBbees Garden, British Legion, Forres
Station.

Attend annual Beautiful Scotland seminar.

Discussing and deciding colours for summer bedding and choosing sculptures for Grant Park.

AGM and presentation of Certificates of Thanks to recognise the efforts of and support from our partner groups and individuals.

Coffee Morning in Forres Town Hall to raise funds and attract members and sponsors.

Newsletter distributed to members, sponsors and publicity outlets.

Initial inspection of possible route for Britain in Bloom judging.

Assessment of Wee FiBbees Garden to decide improvements to be made and to support funding application.

Reconstruction of Sign Bed at Market Green to make summer sign more visible.

Launch of Adopt a Street programme for 2011.

Launch of Wee FiBbees 2011 programme.

Replacement planting at War Veterans’ Garden

Launch of Britain in Bloom entry and Forres in Bloom 21st Birthday year by planting trees supplied by Anglia Homes at Forres Community Garden

Wee FiBbees start planting seed and preparing for summer planting.

Schools and groups take part in National Spring Clean Week

Every Primary pupil receives a pack of Pumpkin Seeds, compost and pot for competition for Heaviest Pumpkin competition in Forres Horticultural Society’s 8Oth year celebration

21st Birthday scroll competition details issued to schools

Sponsorship letters delivered to local businesses.

Two day membership drive at Mackenzie and Cruickshanks Garden Centre.

Stall at Theme Day in conjunction with Transition Town Forres and Moray Waste Busters to sell ‘ducks’ for Duck Race! raise funds.

Coffee Morning in Forres Town Hall to raise funds and attract members and sponsors. Sale of plants and Zero Waste Scotland composting display to enhance floral displays in private gardens.

June:
Brackets for baskets and boxes fitted for new sponsors.

Planting barrels at Forres Station and throughout town.

Assisting Forres Academy students with regeneration of courtyard garden.

New bed at Market Green planted with logo to commemorate Forres in Bloom 21st Birthday.

Choosing and ordering spring bulbs and bedding.

Working with Falconer Museum and local schools to design and create banners and wall hangings for display to recognise Forres in Bloom’s 21st Birthday.

Window display in High Street shop to publicise Forres in Bloom and visit of judges

Weekly meeting of Wee FlBbees gardeners begins.

Preparation for judging.

Daily watering of baskets, beds, boxes, tubs and sculptures.

Routine maintenance tasks: litter picking, weeding, dead-heading and feeding.

Stall at Forres Highland Games to sell ‘ducks’ for Duck Race

Judging of Best Kept Gardens Competition

Judging of Best Shop Window Display Competition

Flower Festival in St Leonard’s Church in cooperation with Moray Floral Art Club, ‘All Things Bright and Beautiful’ to celebrate 21st Birthday

Entries submitted by Wee FlBbees to Forres Flower Show including
Judging of Heaviest Pumpkin Competition.

Emptying of annual bedding for composting by Forres Community
